Holistic community services

Homes and support services.

We are privileged to own such a large, well-located site in Coburg that we can use to provide much needed community and affordable housing. We will also be improving the amenities for the community services we’ve delivered from Jessie Street since 1970.

The new apartments will appeal to a range of people struggling to find homes.

There will be a mix of affordable homes for front line workers who do essential work but can’t afford rents in the area, and community housing for people on the Victorian Housing Register.

The site will also incorporate existing Uniting community services, continuing Moreland Hall’s legacy of providing Alcohol and Other Drug counselling services.

Future residents will already have connections to the Coburg area.

Our proposal

The project is repurposing land fronting Jessie and Hall Streets in Coburg. The development is architecturally designed and will sit within a garden parkland setting.

We have plans for 75 apartments across two buildings. The site includes provision for our existing community services, with the capacity to further support our housing residents.

The site is ideally located close to key amenities including:

  • Nearby public transport, reducing environmental impacts and transport costs for residents, workers and people accessing our services
  • Access to main street retail and services
  • Connections to wider health services provided by the adjacent John Fawkner Private Hospital
  • Proximity to Melbourne’s CBD.
Key features:
  • 75 homes across two buildings – one three-storey and the other a four-storey
  • There will be a combination of affordable homes for front line workers and community housing
  • Ground floor office/community space for support services including Alcohol and Other Drug services currently operating on the site
  • Onsite car parking spaces and ample bike storage
  • Parkland setting
  • We are committed to sustainability and are aiming for an average NatHERS 7-Star energy rating and 4-Star Green Star Building.

Project status

The project has been approved by the Department of Transport and Planning under the State’s new planning process for significant residential projects which include affordable housing.

The Department managed public notifications and was the delegated decision maker. You can find more information about the planning process and decision on the DTP Planning Register website.

During the design process we worked with Merri-bek council officers and the Victorian Government Architect to ensure this is a good, appropriate development for Jessie Street.

Planning approval is an important milestone for the project and we will update this page with progress.
